Mongo: is an unaltered,153 pound male saint Bernard that is heartworm and lyme positive. He has also tested positive for hookworm and coxcidia. His front legs and elbows are full of water due to laying on cement all the time. He is thought to be 3 years old and whom we have found to be very friendly with people and other dogs. When Mongo was found, as a stray, his coat was so matted that the shelter workers thought he weight 300 pound. He is a little hesitant about being outside alone and at the moment does not like to go outside in the dark but he is learning what the real world, grass, trees etc are all about and his confidence grows everyday. As he was crated almost all the time he is not 100 % house broken but is learning fast. He is fit and healthy with no health problems at all. Some of his strong attribute are; very good manners, waits his turn and sits by the door when its time to potty. Tank will be a very big boy when he is full grown so expect 160# or so. Claude: is a 3 year old saint mix. He walks well on a leash and is house trained. He can be a bit food aggressive with other dogs so it would be best to have him as the only pet. He likes cats and dogs and loves to meet and greet people. 12/12/2002

Guido: 3-4 year old longhaired male. Just a very sweet guy looking to become part of a family of his very own. Guido was picked up as a stray, so we do not have much background information on him, however, he has adjusted well and has displayed that typical Saintly temperament that we all expect! He will make a great addition to a loving family. 12/12/2002

SALLY: is a delightful, sweet one year old female. She was recently spayed, is up to date on shots and is heartworm-negative. She is housetrained. A tiny girl at only 85 pounds, she has small bones and will probably remain a little peanut even when full-grown. Sally has had some obedience training and seems quite eager to please. 12/11/2002

Abigail: (we call her Abby) Vet states between 8 and 18 months. Her rabies tag states 9 mos. 3 days. Her Weight as of one week ago was 86.5 pounds. She has eaten 40 lbs of dog food this week. She was really starved and is now leaving food in her bowl. I think she’s finally getting full. I know she’s gained but don’t know how much to date. We should her spayed as soon as she is up to it. She was negative for heart worms. She is current on her shots as of Sept 5, 2002She is an outdoor dog. She has been in the house for short periods of time. Have had no problems with her then. Her foster home lives on 12 acres. They don’t have a regular fence, just pasture fencing. As for housebroken , She’s never been inside for more than an hour. But that was not a problem. We do not know yet if her hair is Long or short. Its just starting to grow back. The vet said it will start to grow good three weeks after treatment. She was a Stray or dumped living on the streets with all of the parasites feeding on her. No she loves everyone she meets. Abby is not dog aggressive to my knowledge . As for cats she smelled our basket of kittens and walked away as for larger cats ,She’s chased them, but hasn’t hurt them. Vet said she’s healthy. She had scabies from all of her insect bites which are healing nicely and her hair has started to grow back nicely. Her habits are ,Barks when you leave after petting her. She gets Excited by squawking chickens. Chase’s them just to hear them but does not hurt them. Very funny really.. Her current dog food is Ole Ruff High-Fat 26% 18% fat dog food on now. This little sweet heart that has had a very hard start in life , she was starved and still does not have a mean bone in her body. She needs a loving home with lots of love. She is located with in 50 miles East of Fort Smith AR. on the Oklahoma side. Adopted by Sharon Elder Arkansas Rescue. UPDATE; AS OF 11/23/02 Yes, Abby was spayed a couple of months ago. She is up to date on shots. She’s still doing very well. I did the spray her in the face and no command thing with the water bottle and she is not jumping up on me now. She is a quick learner. Yesterday she tried to play with the GrPyrneese again. They ran together for a while, then the female Pyr got her tail feathers in a ruckus and became aggressive towards Abby. Abby just looked at her as if to say, ‘Gee, you’re grumpy’ and turned around and did something else. I was so proud of her. Also, when she was loose I had forgotten and left my 7 lb pom outside. She didn’t hassle her either. It was just a race to see who could get in the house the fastest. LOL Still in the house for short periods. Still no accidents. So she maybe housebroken and I just did not know it. She didn’t chase the cats yesterday either, or the chickens. Ears are fine…Nails have been clipped by the vet. Doing very well with sit command. Walking so-so on the leash after a couple of minutes. Moved her over to the side of the house so she can see inside the windows. No barking or anything, just when strangers, like the electric guy, or UPS guy comes. She would really like to be at her forever home by the Holidays. 12/11/2002

I love other dogs and cats are OK too. Although I think the cats are fun to chase! But I would never hurt them. I love everyone! But my most favorite are the children. They just make me so happy. PRINCESS: is a spayed two-year old roughcoat. She is UTD on all shots and HW negative. She is quite friendly and affectionate. Princess has been with children; however, she would probably do best with older kids because of her size. She is fine with SUBMISSIVE dogs but can be a little bit too energetic for cats. Ideally, she will be the only pet in the family because she loves attention. A fenced yard is a must. 12/7/2002

MOLLY: Molly is being vetted this week – She is a sweet girl, Female, 18 months old, house broken, no jumping, well-mannered except for separation anxiety. She really needs another female dog, or Mom or Dad (human) to spend some petting time with her. She does seem to get along with other dogs now. She loves people and children. She has beautiful long hair. She has been spayed, shots, wormed. She was heartworm + and will be fully treated ,in good health, and ready to be placed at the end of the week 8-19-02 She is in the Fort Smith Arkansas Area. Her big brown eyes say it all. Rescue shuttle for transportation of 2 hour drive or so available. Placed by Sharon Elder Arkansas Rescue. UPDATE 10/4/2002; She was such a good girl and you know, we really didn’t see any signs of separation anxiety because she was always around other animals. There was never a problem with her at all. She was just a big baby – loved everyone, always wanting to give those BIG sloppy kisses. I do not believe the separation anxiety was as bad as we were told, at least, it wasn’t with us. Update on Molly as of 10/09/02 Molly is very playful and people oriented. She is boarded with my other rescues and is always glad to see me. I was in the process of placing a 9 mo old female when I got Molly and after reading that she was dog aggressive I started testing her. She and Lexus got along great right from the start and when other dogs in their private run bark at her when I have her in the big run she pays no attention. Can’t test easily for separation anxiety at a kennel but I will find a way to evaluate that. She is now very healthy and has completed her heartworm treatment. I have to have her spayed soon and then she will be ready for her new forever home. She is currently being fostered in the Kansas City Mo area. 12/6/2002

Nico: As you can see, she’s a very healthy 3 year old. After 2-3 months of great foster care by her rescuer’s. Nico is healthy with a full coat of hair and no heartworms. She is very very sweet, laid back and love’s children, adults, and can even allow a cat to share her home. She is house broken and will love any attention you give her. She is very good and has not tried to climb her foster homes fence. She gets along very well with other dogs. Cats are an unknown. Her history is …..She spent most of her life chained to a tree, whelping puppies for her master. She had no shots, not fixed, had mange mites, was under weight, and was heartworm positive. She was rescued along with her mate Beethoven Who is still being treated for heartworms. She deserves and is ready for her forever home. We have had her in foster care now for 3 months and must make room for another saint. Saint Bernard Rescue foundation is paying the other $400. Her mate ( Beethoven )will all so need as much TLC and vet funding, before he will be ready to place. That should take us about 2 weeks. All donations to SBRF (a 501-c3 non profit org.) are tax deductible. 12/6/2002

HARLEY 2: Harley is a playful, exuberant 1 year old neutered longhaired male. He is up to date on all shots, heartworm negative and housetrained. He loves to be the center of attention. Although he has had some obedience training, he would do best with a giant-breed-experienced family who will continue working with him on manners. A product of divorce, Harley is looking for stability. Because of his size, strength and energy level, we would prefer to see him with OLDER children. He seems to be friendly with other dogs. Cats are definitely out, however. And a fenced yard is strongly preferred. 11/26/2002

Beethovan: is approximately one year old, neutered long haired male. Up to date on shots, HW negative. He was left tied up outside the shelter with another dog. ANNIE: This wonderful 2 y/o long hair female is just a bundle of love. You can tell when you meet her she just wants to be your warm loving friend. She came to us with mats and road tar in her fur. I love children, but my foster family feels that I would be best suited for a family with children over the age of 8. I am working on not jumping up on people when I get excited. My foster family says that obedience training will be a mandatory condition for my adoption. I still have a lot of puppy behaviors, but am very willing to please. If you are looking for an affectionate, good looking boy and have a fenced yard for me to play in, please fill out an application today. 11/17/2002

Willis: is a very handsome young longhaired male who was abandoned at a marina on a local lake. Fortunately, he wandered onto the property of a caring retired couple, who contacted Saint Rescue. He has now been neutered, vaccinated and tested (negative!!!) for heartworms. Willis is just a big ‘ol goofy puppy – the vet thinks that he’s 16 months old at the very most. He seems to get along with everybody and everything! Willis has been starved for attention, so he’s a bit of a handful, but he doesn’t have a mean bone in him. She loves everyone she meets, walks well on the lead, & enjoys going for rides. Sammie is a smaller bred Saint, but has a really big heart! She also enjoys just being a couch potato! Sammie gets along great with other dogs & children. She has not been exposed to cats, but we think that she will do great. Sammie will make a great addition to someone’s family! 11/4/2002

DRAKE: is an 11 month old rough-coat male. He weighs in at around 70 lbs. & is still growing! Drake is neutered, up to date on all his shots, and is on flea & heartworm preventative. He is housebroken & crate trained. Drake is great with other dogs & cats. He is good with children, but does not realize his size, & may tend to knock younger ones over. This boy is VERY puppyish & is starving for affection. Drake needs lots of attention & loves to lean up against you! He needs some basic obedience, because he is all puppy. He loves to go between your legs to get your attention. Drake has the same type of hip problem as “Smokey”. The vet recommends Drake to be on medication indefinitely. He also needs to be on 1500 mg. of Glucosamine & Condroitin per day. Plus he will also have to get regular exercise & take 800 mg. of Vitamin E to tone up the muscles in that leg. Drake is in NO pain & should do well indefinitely on these medications & regular exercise, as long as he is NOT allowed to get over-weight. Drake loves to play & is very willing to please. He will make a great addition to someone’s family. 11/4/2002

Brutus: 3-year-old shorthaired male, neutered, very sweet. No training but responds very well on leash (with a buckle collar). Came in with Cleo and loves her dearly. Ideally would like to place these two dogs together, but would consider single adoption. 11/4/2002

Abby: is a 3 year old beautiful rough coated girl. She is a very large Saint. Weighs 149.5. Due to her size Children should be at least 10 years old. Abby wants to love a family that will give her special attention and rub her belly. She is good with other male dogs. She will be available for adoption on October 15th. She is spayed and current on all her shot. 11/4/2002

Zachary: Last week it was brought to my attention that there was a Saint in need in Rockford, Illinois. Wisconsin Rescue was contacted by a couple that had a 3 year old male/intact that suffered from a severe flea infestation. They stated that they did not have the money to deal with the problem and subsequently he was living outside because he was scratching himself raw and bleeding in their home. Jan had suggested to myself and the Foundation to possibly help fund his treatment and allow him to remain in the home where he was loved so he would not have to be relinquished to Saint Bernard Rescue. After speaking with the owners, it was determined by myself and the owners that Zachary would be better off being relinquished to rescue after all. What I found in their home will anger and amaze you. Zachary was lying on the living room floor barely alive. He was so badly infested with fleas that they had caused such a profound anemia that he no longer had the energy to survive. He was helped to his feet and sprayed heavily with flea spray and placed in my car. His limbs were swollen with edema (fluid), he had not eaten in weeks, thus his 70 pound frame and rib and hip bone exposure, he had open pressure wounds on his hips, he had open wounds on his ears, he has little to no hair on the lower half of his body and tail, he has large ulcers in his mouth from malnutrition, and he has severe diarrhea. I sped all the way from Rockford to my animal hospital in hopes I would make it there in time. He was immediately placed on an IV, bathed, and started on Doxycycline, an antibiotic that treats Tick Borne Diseases. We have sent out preliminary blood work that indicates a severe anemia and a severe infection. His limbs and body are still swollen and we have sent out an Auto Immune Profile and Tick Serology to help us determine what is going on with him. He also is infected with whipworms, roundworms, and hookworms. There is no real answer whether or not Zachary will survive. I wanted to share this with all of you because we take the words of the owners so lightly that we believe the problem at hand is what they say. We believed that these owners were truly worried about the welfare of their dog with a perfectly treatable flea infestation. We were wrong. Many times we choose dogs in shelters over owner give ups because they are truly at risk of being destroyed. My advice is to investigate as much as you can about a situation. If I would have bumped Zachary for a dog in the shelter, Zachary would not be alive today. Please keep Zachary in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you to everyone that participated in the Yankee Candle Fundraiser. Those funds will be put towards Zachary’s treatment and recovery. 11/3/2002

Olivia: 4-5 Year Old Female Rough Coat Olivia comes to us from the Orange County shelter. She is a big girl with nice markings. Olivia is rather large in the stomach area, soooo she’s not starving but she was neglected as fas as dermatitis and scabs on her ears. Olivia has a hyper personality and pulls on the leash, but she is a good dog. She appears to be around 5 years old, but we’re not positive. She rides great in the car and is great with the kids. We don’t know how she is with other dogs or cats yet. Olivia has bad cherry eyes as you can barely see hers, so she is going to the vet to have that taken care of, along with her shots and wellness exam. If you would like to be a forever family to an older dog who has plenty of life left, please fill out an application so you can come and meet Olivia. 11/3/2002

Mitzi: 1-2 Year Old Female Rough Coat We don’t know very much about Mitzi yet. She seems to do well with submissive dogs since she has a dominant personality, but she is bad with livestock. She seems to like children. 11/3/2002

Sassy: 4 Year Old Female Smooth Coat Sassy was turned into us by her owner, who moved from a house with a yard into an apartment. We don’t know much about her other than she got along well with her littermate that the owner kept. Sassy was the alpha dog, so she might not get along with other dogs that are dominant. She also seems to be okay with children. We will let you know more as we get to know Sassy better. In the meantime, 11/3/2002

Sheba: 3 Year Old Female Rough Coat Sheba is a very sweet and young Saint who needs a loving home with people that will care for her. She came from a home where she had very little space to run around and enjoy herself. The family didn’t have enough time to dedicate to her and as a result she had quite a bit of matted hair, but unlike many others that we rescue, Sheba at least has a nice, full belly. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Sheba is house-trained and has been in a family with small children and two very small dogs, so she should do fine with other small pets. Sheba has had some training and knows basic obedience, but could definitely use a brush up with her new forever family. Is that you? 11/3/2002

Murphy: 2 Yr Old Male Rough Coat Murphy is a beautiful, playful boy needing a forever home. His name was originally Frank and had been adopted by a couple who just recently divorced. His owner sadly turned him over to rescue due to the fact that he works 24 hour shifts at a time and cannot spend the quality time with Murphy that he deserves. Murphy has one blue eye and one brown eye and a cute hospice ear. He loves people and seems to be a man’s dog and gets along great with kids. Murphy has some issues with other dogs and therefore will need to go to a home where he will be the only pet. He lays on his back for belly rubs and constantly offers his paw out to get your attention. Murphy is energetic and would benefit from some obedience classes. 11/3/2002

Noah: 12 Month Old Male Rough Coat Noah is a very good looking boy. He is big already and he is still young – only about 12 months old. He still plays and bounces around like a young pup. When he was picked up from the shelter up north, the staff ran him in their yard for 2 hours that morning and he still didn’t sit down the entire trip to our rescue kennel. This one has a lot of energy. He is very sweet. Every time I would look back at him he would wag his tail. He definately needs obedience training and is very strong, but he knew “shake” and will let you hold his paw forever. Our staff is also working on “heel” and “stop”, although he hasn’t learned sit or down yet. Noah will be perfect for a family wanting a younger dog that they know they will have to take to training. He loves attention but needs a lot of training, so he is best in a family with no little children. We don’t know how he is with other dogs as we haven’t had time to socialize him yet. He pulls and wants to go towards them and seems to want to play, but again, we don’t know for sure yet. Noah will be neutered and get his shots this week. 11/3/2002

Apollo: 1 Year Old Male Rough Coat Apollo was being fostered by a family that really wanted to keep him, but their male saint didn’t like him so they kindly drove him 3 hrs to us and they cried all the way. They said he got along great with their kids, walked on a leash well and seemed to get along with a Pomeranian in the family and the neighbor’s male pit mix. We don’t know how he is with cats. Apollo is current on all shots and will be neutered this week. Are you his forever home? 11/3/2002

Nikki: 6 year old rough coat is a beautiful and HUGE girl. She was turned in along with her son, Chance, by their owner who was moving and could not find a place that would allow big dogs. Nikki is spayed and will be up to date on her shots this week She gets along well with humans, but she is aggressive to other dogs. We don’t know if she would actually bite or harm them, but she sure does bark at them. Due to Nikki’s size and strength, we recommend this dog to a family with no small kids and to a strong handler that will teach Nikki some basic obedience and teach her that it is not OK to be aggressive to other dogs. She is a beauty with lots of love to give. 11/3/2002

Amy: 3 Year Old Female Smooth Coat Amy is a sweetheart…. we think she recently had a litter of pups and was discarded. She is extremely thin, and in desperate need of love. She also had a tumor on her side removed (we are waiting for the biopsy results right now) and the full works at the vet. What a doll baby for being so neglected…. This sweet little girl walks well on a leash and seems to get along with other dogs, we will know more later. 11/3/2002

Ariel: 1 1/2 Year Old Female Albino Smooth Coat Ariel is a special needs Saint Bernard. Ariel came into rescue from the Apple Valley shelter with her mother Amy. Ariel was adopted out at the shelter and though the man fell in love with her and said she was a great dog, she just couldn’t seem to get along with his cat. So he brought her back and we were fortunate enough to get her. Ariel is a rare albino Saint Bernard and will need special attention in an indoor only home. She is extremely sensitive to sunlight and will need to stay out of the sun during peak hours. Ariel loves kids, has no aggressive tendencies that we’ve seen, and loves to play with her foster families’ dogs. She fits right in with the family and will make an excellent pet. The foster family would love to keep her but are already at their city limit of 3 dogs per household. Ariel was recently spayed and is gaining some much needed weight. 11/3/2002

AJ: 16 months old, LH male. Is house and crate trained, walks nicely on leash, gentle with the children in his foster home. OK with other dogs. Leaves the cat and bunny alone. 11/2/2002

Bailey: 11 mo old, long-haired male. Very sweet, good with kids and other dogs. Owners moved here from a 3 acre farm in Arkansas and he’s not very happy now. They’re only renting and he can’t come into the house now. He’s good with small children and other dogs and wants to be someone’s couch potato. 10/31/2002

Governess: Or “Nessie” as we like to call her. She is a 2 year old female. Her previous owners gave her up to the shelter because the other dogs in the house were beating her up. She is very shy and timid. She loves people and gets along great with dogs and cats. Once she gets comfortable she makes herself at home. As you can see she is a regular couch potato. She is spayed, current on all vaccines, heartworm, and parasite free. If you are interested in helping this beauty come out of her shell, please contact Tammy. 10/31/2002

Candy: This 3 year old sweetie was rescued from being sold at a swap meet in Missouri. The shelter that rescued her could not financially support Candy because she is positive for heartworm disease. They contacted Illinois Saint Bernard Rescue and we were happy to lend a hand to help Candy. She will begin treatment shortly and will be ready for adoption in a couple of weeks. She is current on all of her vaccines and will be spayed following treatment. She is great with other dogs, kids, and cats. She is a little on the shy side but warms up quickly. If you are interested in giving Candy a second chance for happiness, please contact Tammy. 10/31/2002

This guy in know way has any hip issues, for the fact that he will jump in mid-air to catch a ball!! It’s really quite an amazing feat to see a dog of this size with all-fours off the ground!! Ben is very energetic & is all puppy! His mission in life is to PLAY, PLAY PLAY! So if you have the love & attention to give to this guy, Ben will make a great family pet! Hogan was a show dog, he has several ribbons to his name. Naturally he is AKC registered and is micro-chipped. He has been neutered recently. He is very people friendly and loves to sit beside members of the family. He has however displayed some aggression towards other animals so would be best placed in a single pet family. The shelter was really overloaded with dogs – they had over 140 – when the City Council met and decided that 70 dogs would be the maximum number allowed at that facility. Uvalde got out of the shelter just in time! Amazingly, Uvalde was heartworm negative. She’s now had all her shots and has been spayed. Brutus: is an AKC registered male Saint. He is 5yrs. old. Very friendly dog. He needs a large area to run and will need to have at least a 6 ft. fence. Will be neutered before he is adopted. Up to date on all shots and heartworm negative. 9/3/2002

She is GREAT with children, cats, and other dogs. She is a roughcoat and is a beauty! She is UTD on vaccines, heartworm, and parasite free. She is looking for a place that is safe that she can call her own. Won’t you rescue her? Fenced in yard a must! Please contact Tammy for more information about this precious pup. 9/3/2002

Wilson: 12 month old VERY sweet boy! He is neutered, UTD on vaccines, parasite and heartworm free. He gets along great with other dogs and cats. Wilson came from a home with 3 small children. Although he was great with the children, his owners felt he was too much of a puppy to handle. Wilson is looking for a “forever home” where he can be a BIG puppy and be loved unconditionally. He is housebroken and obedience trained. Won’t you be his “Saint”??? Must have a fenced in yard. 9/3/2002

She is good with other dogs, cats and especially children. Taco is a VERY intelligent dog, and is quick to learn anything. She is very willing to please her family, & she is also housebroken & crate trained. Taco rides great in the car, & loves to run and play. She would be great for a family with lots of kids, who love to run & play outdoors! Taco is the type of dog who would love to have a job!! She would be a wonderful addition to someone’s active family!! 9/3/2002

Atlanta is also crate trained & housebroken. She will be a wonderful family companion! 9/3/2002

SIMBA: is an 11 month old rough-coat male. He weighs in at around 110lbs., & is still growing!! Simba is neutered, utd on all his shots, and on flea & heartworm preventative. He is being crate trained & housebroken while in rescue. Simba is good with other dogs, cats & LOVES CHILDREN! He rides well in a car & loves lots of attention. Simba needs some basic obedience training, but really wants to please his owner. He pulls on the leash a little, but once corrected walks fine. Simba will be a great addition to someone’s family! 9/3/2002

BUDDY TOO: is a 3 year old rough-coat male. He weighs in at around 120lbs. Buddy is neutered, utd on all his shots, and is on flea & heartworm preventative. This boy is absolutely a wonderful dog!! He has Epilepsy & needs to be on Phenobarbital twice a day. His medication will cost around $10.00 per month. Buddy will make someone a wonderful companion! 9/3/2002

Twinkie: is a 7 month old female rough coat. Twinkie came to us from the gambling capital of the world – Las Vegas. This high energy pup must have been up long nights playing slots because she needs to gain a lot of weight. She barks at other dogs and loves to play, but she is high strung and needs obedience training. In fact, it was really hard to get a clear picture of her because of her high energy. She’s extremely thin but with that metabolism who can blame her! A family with kids, although not really small ones, would probably work best for this sweet and loving pup. 9/3/2002

Ventura: 2 Yr Old Male Rough Coat Ventura is quite a ball of love. He is VERY sweet. He is a big boy, a little overweight I’d say. He has what seems to be a fatty cyst on his left hip, which is something that a vet normally will not remove unless it bothers the dog, but we will have it checked out anyway, just to make sure. He also has a raw wound on his nose, which may be from another dog in a neighboring kennel. Ventura came to us with tiny mats of hair all over, but after a good brush out and a nice bath, he will be gorgeous. He was turned in by his owners last Tuesday. Apparently he has lived his whole life in a kennel in their backyard & now that he is out, he does not want to go back in. Animal control first had him in the kennel with two cocker spaniels to keep him company and he got along with them just fine, but even with them he hated being in the kennel, so they let him sleep in the office. He rode in the car very well all the way from Visalia, but doesn’t like being in a crate – he just doesn’t like to be alone. Ventura is already neutered and will be up to date on all his shots this week. He gets excited when he sees other dogs, but just acts like he wants to say hi. He was pretty good with the cats. He only wants to chase if they run. One of the cats kept walking around him in circles (perimeter checks of “the beast”) & he just laid there without moving. He is GREAT with people. He fell asleep on me on the ride home. ๐Ÿ˜‰ He can also sit & lay down when you ask him nicely. 9/3/2002

Barney: 4 1/2Year Old Male Smooth Coat Barney is a 4 1/2 year old smooth coat saint. He is a very tall boy! His owners moved from a large house with a lot of land to a small house with a very small yard. While heartbroken to give him up, they felt it would be best for Barney if he could have a home where he had more “room to roam”. Barney is a very sweet boy who we are told is great with kids, adults, dogs & cats alike. (He is actually afraid of cats, the big wussy!) 9/3/2002

Barnabus: 2 Year Old Male Rough Coat What a fluffy little boy Barnabus was found roaming Camp Pendleton. He had no hair and was in extremely bad shape. Some vet students took him in and nursed him back to health. While he is doing much better, he still has a ways to go…. what a sweet boy. Barnabus reminds us of a little lion cub and when I sat down on the ground next to him he pawed at me to play with him… he loves to play with other dogs….and is in desperate need of a forever home. 9/3/2002

Zeus: 3 Year Old Male Smooth Coat Zeus is a beautiful 3 year old Saint that came to us from a very sweet and loving family. Due to medical conditions the family could no longer care for Zeus the way they wanted to care for him. We are helping the family to find a nurturing forever home for Zeus. He is like a big lovable teddy bear. Very curious and playful. He grew up around kids so is good with children. We will test his temperament with other dogs to see how receptive he is around other dogs. So far all signs indicate that he has a very good temperament. Zeus will sit, lay, roll over, and when you feed him he will sit there until you are done giving him food and water and tell him to go and eat. The big boy will be up to date with all his shots and be neutered this week. 9/3/2002

Calli: a sweet, lively 3 year old mixed breed who loves people, loves to be groomed and will do just about anything for attention. She weighs around 70#, is spayed and up to date on shots. Good with dogs, not known with cats. Would be good with older children. 9/2/2002

Margie: is very thin and needs to put on at least 10 to 20 pounds. She is very sweet and gets along well with other dogs. This poor gal has had a tough life and deserves to take it easy in her senior years (8 years old). She is very spunky and loves to play and run around. Margie enjoys riding in the car and spending time on the sofa as well as sleeping in bed with you. She is a talker and will moan and groan with pleasure as you pet her. Also no one has taught Marge that it is not nice to bark when company comes to visit so we are working on establishing those manners right now. 9/2/2002

Pandy: is a 4 year old female that gets a long well with other dogs, cats and children. She has a full mask and is tri color. Pandy does need to loose about 20 pounds. She walks well on a leash and know basic commands. 9/2/2002

Bruno: is a 3 yr. old neutered roughcoated male (~140#). Bruno is up-to-date on his shots, including bordetella, and microchipped with an AVID chip. Bruno was surrendered when his owners moved into an apartment. He was originally purchased from a pet store. He is housebroken and knows some basic commands (sit, down, come and stay). He walks well on a loose leash. He has not lived with other animals. Once he recovers from his neuter, he will be assessed with cats and other dogs. He was raised in a home with younger children. He loves to give kisses. His favorite activity is to have his belly rubbed. Bruno needs a home that will commit to his ongoing obedience training and socialization. We require a securely-fenced exercise area for Bruno. Preference will be given to homes in New England or Ontario. 9/1/2002

Sophie Belle: was taken to a kill shelter because she didn’t want to breed. A kind sole rescued her and took her to a better shelter. And they called rescue. She was treated for positive heartworm and is ready for a forever home. 9/1/2002

COLBY: 2 y/o male short hair, when he came to us, we were told he is an “outside dog”, but, he really prefers to be close to his humans. weight 140# 9/1/2002

Mary T.: My caregivers named me that as I was found wandering the streets of Moore OK. I am an elderly lady about 6 years old and to be honest I have a few extra pounds. I weigh about 140 lbs. I am very friendly with people and other dogs. I have not been around any children but with my laid back personality I don’t think that children will be a problem for me. I am a little shy at first but once I get to know you I am very affectionate. I am in reasonably good health for a lady my age. I am crate and house trained and I walk well on a leash. I would ideally be suited to come to live with an older couple or someone who can understand that I am approaching my “golden years” I have not had all my medical checks yet, but will start being vetted just after Labor Day. As soon as the doctor gives me the approval I will be ready to go to live in at my “forever home”. 8/31/2002

Boy George: This is a young 2 year old Approx. Small in size, Long hair Saint Bernard. His loves all people. He is said to like all dogs, He has not been Cat tested yet. He was found wandering around some homes. He does not appear to have any significant health problems. Housebroken unknown at this point also. He will be vetted for shots, and worming. A good wash is called for of course;) Our foster parents will up date in a few days as to his sweet behavior and any remarkable information you might enjoy. 8/31/2002

Jewel: 10 months old, Female Long hair /buzzed this month. (Aug) Jewel is a owner turn in. She was to be put down this week , so we must place ASAP. Last night I worked with Jewels a little and she’s just so wonderful. She’s VERY smart but needs a family that is willing to work with her. She’s very playful, loving and craves attention. SHE HATES TO BE CRATED! She’s very skinny and needs to put on some weight but she seems to be in good shape other than that. she was spade at 6 months. She’s been wormed and up to date on all her shots. She is VERY big and will have to have some obedience training but with the right family she’ll be a wonderful companion. I just can’t imagine how someone could let such a special dog be put to sleep. I hope we can find the perfect, loving family for this dog because she deserves nothing less. Jewel is a bit aggressive of smaller dogs and cats, She needs to be socialized with other dogs. She is not house broken yet. She is great left alone in the garage as far as not tearing or chewing things. She is wonderful as far as not being destructive that way. P.S. These pictures do not serve her justice! 8/31/2002

Maggie: 1 1/2 yr. old spayed, longhaired female. She is a very loving girl. But full of lots of energy. Definitely needs some training, but loves everyone. Not sure if she’s good with other dogs, and will only place her with older children due to her energy level. 8/31/2002

Elvis: cool 4 year old St. Bernard/Hound mix. Elvis is a lot of fun – he digs people, kids and other dogs. He passes out kisses (no scarf’s), too! Neutered, shots. 8/29/2002

Tina: 3 year old longhair female. Needs continued basic obedience classes. Very loving and loves to be in the house. Does not get along with other female dogs, male dogs o.k. 8/23/2002

Catfish: is a 3.5 yo neutered male rough coat. He has a great Saint head. Unfortunately, he was bred to have a nice head with little regard for inherited joint problems. He is not a candidate for any orthopedic surgery because multiple joints are involved. He is very agile considering his elbows, hips and knees. We have him on a nutritional supplement for joints. He follows my daughter when she rides her horse around a 1 mile wooded trail ride. Because of his joints, I would not recommend him for a home with children under 6 years. Those age kids tend to try to ride saints. He’s a big baby, loves to have his armpits scratched and hang out near Air conditioning vents. 8/23/2002

Sasha: Very sweet 2 year old smoothcoat female. UTD on vaccines, heartworm and parasite checked. Great with other dogs and loves human attention. She was found as a stray and is looking for a place to call her own. She’s had a rough start and would appreciate a loving home. 8/22/2002

Shelby: is a 3 year old Saint/Pyrenees mix. She is super sweet. She is a little shy around people, at first, but warms up quickly. She especially likes children. We have tested her with dogs of both genders and sizes and cats; she is good with everything. She would make a great dog for someone looking for a gentle playmate with their children, but not as a jump around the yard playmate with their dog. She is very mellow. House trained, seems to know some commands (sit, down), walks well on a leash. She needs someone to give her lots of love!!! 8/20/2002

Toby: is 8 mo old special needs puppy. He came into rescue with a broken leg from abuse- that is healed. He was neutered and re-xrayed and found to have severe hip dysphasia. He has such a WONDERFUL personality and deserves to have help with his body. If he doesn’t have surgery he may not be able to function much past 1 yr of age. Would YOU like to be HIS Saint? Noah: young adult LH male. Noah came from the raid of a home with 85 dogs. There was a lot of media coverage, often about this delightful Saint Bernard. His neck has been shaved because he had maggots in his flesh from a poorly fit collar, which required surgical removal. He is recovering nicely and will be available for adoption in September. He is a happy, playful dog. Good with other dogs, and children. 8/18/2002

Chance: and Bessie: We are each 3 years old. We live in Little Rock, Arkansas, with our human, Tina, who loves us very much. Unfortunately, Tina’s job has changed, and she’s not home much to play with us. Tina adopted both of us when we were about 18 months old. Chance came from the Humane Society with the help of the Arkansas St. Bernard Rescue. Bessie came from our vet, Tim Paladino. Chance was abused as a puppy and has lost most of his eyesight as a result. He is good at moving around once he memorizes the yard, and he has a very good memory. He’s a sweet and loving dog who’s never growled or snapped at anyone โ€“ not even the person who abused him. You’ll have to forgive his coat in the picture. Tina had a house fire in April, and the insurance company packed all our brushes, leashes, and animal care products. Bessie is a big lap dog. Very loving and lots of fun. She tends to serve as Chance’s seeing-eye dog. She loves to roll over and have her belly rubbed. We would like a home together, if possible, because we’re the best of friends. And we both need room to roam. We get along well with other dogs and animals. Tina doesn’t have any children, but we’re good with other people as well, so we don’t think we’d mind having children to play with. We’d love to stay where we are, and Tina would love to keep us, but we’d like to have a family to play with. 8/17/2002

Molly walks well on a lead & just loves everyone she meets. She will be a great addition to ANY family!! 8/7/2002

Houston: is a very handsome longhaired male, whom I believe is 2 years old at the absolute max. When I rescued Houston from animal control, he was covered with burned motor oil. A worker at the shelter explained to me that a lot of folks change their car’s oil, then put the used oil on their dog thinking it will prevent or cure mange. Not only is this not true, I’m here to tell you that it’s virtually impossible to get the motor oil out of the dog’s coat!! After five baths I finally gave up and shaved him. Houston is heartworm negative, has been neutered and has had all his shots. He is a true gentleman – he gets along wonderfully well with the other Rescues and my cats. He loves his Dogloo, and to go for rides. Even though he’s a big boy (approximately 31″ at the shoulders) Houston is afraid of loud noises like thunder and fireworks, so he’ll need to have a safe place to go to when such circumstances arise – preferably inside his new owner’s house! Houston is truly a great dog. 8/1/2002

Stormy: is a 2 year old longhaired male and sweet as anything! As his name suggests, he came in to rescue after being picked up by a good Samaritan during a storm and in the night! Gracie: & Romie: are 4-year-old Saint sisters. Both girls are long hair Saints, are up-to-date on all shots and heartworm preventative, and are being spayed in the next few days. They are both potty trained and have great house manners – they spend most of their time in the house. They are a little shy with strangers and then warm up and become friends. They love kids and are fine with other dogs. We would like to place these two lovely girls together as they have been together all their lives, but we would consider separate homes for them. 7/16/2002

Rocky: is a 3-4 year old rough male. What a sweet, sweet boy. Poor Rocky was left tied to the fence overnight at a local shelter because his owners didn’t want to pay the fee to drop him off. He weighed all of about 60 lbs and someone had dyed the hair on the back of his hind quarters purple. He was being fostered by a family for the past year and has finally gained some weight. Now Rocky has found his way to us and is getting the much needed medical treatment he deserves. He did wonderfully in the car on the way to the vet and talked to me from the back seat every so often. 7/15/2002

Chrystal: is a 1 year old female smooth coat . Chrystal is a blue eyed, sweet, young, dog. She came from a shelter in Chula Vista. On the car ride to Orange county she played with the kids in the back of the car and at the vet’s office she ran circles around the vet techs legs like a puppy. She is extremely thin and needs to gain some much needed weight to get completely healthy….What a sad start for such a sweet dog. She seems to love kids and as you can see by the pictures, she gets along well with other dogs too. We think she is still a pup. 7/15/2002

Brandy: is a 2 year old female rough coat. Brandy is a beautiful Saint Bernard. Her owners moved down here from Central California and sadly turned her in as they could not afford the additional housing costs they were being asked to keep her. Brandy is up to date on all her shots and has just been spayed. 7/15/2002

Farley: is an absolutely adorable five-month old male puppy! His owner lived in an apartment that didn’t allow pets. He bought Farley anyway, thinking that he could hide Farley from his landlord. When his plan failed (go figureโ€ฆ) he turned Farley into a high-kill shelter. Farley is truly a wonderful puppy! He has a great personality – very outgoing, and eager to please – and he is very intelligent. He has been neutered, vaccinated, tested negative for heartworms, and is on heartworm preventative. Farley goes into his crate without any complaint and lays right down. He loves to play, and will be a wonderful addition to some lucky family! 7/15/2002

Unfortunately, Rudy’s parents cannot keep him due to a divorce, and his daddy is very anxious that a wonderful home be found for him. Her growth was a little stunted due to malnutrition. We took her into our family and hearts, but she loves to dig under our fence. Pandora has been severely neglected by her former owner, & was abandoned. She is a super loving dog & just wants to please her owner! Pandora was born with a condition called “Demodectic Mange” & is being treated. This condition is NOT contagious, but will be permanent & on going. When she has a flare up, it is basically just like having a hot spot. As of right now, she is learning some basic commands, & is working on them well. Sunny gets along well with other dogs; it’s unknown how she is with cats. She is a very sweet, loving dog but doesn’t realize that she weighs over 100 pounds! It will probably be best for her to go to a home without small children so that she won’t knock them over with her enthusiasm.7/3/2002

SAM: Two-year old roughcoat Sam came to us when his family moved and the new landlord wouldn’t allow pets. He is neutered, UTD on all shots and heartworm-negative. His very favorite things include baths, ice cream, and riding in the car. Nervous at first meeting new people, Sam quickly warms up. The perfect home for Sam would have a fenced yard and a Saint-experienced owner. He’d like to be the only pet. SAMSON #2: This little cutie is about 1 year old, neutered, UTD on shots, heartworm-negative and housebroken. Samson will flourish with a patient owner willing to spend time with him. Yogi came to us from a shelter where he had been surrendered because his family neglected him. Amazingly, he still trusts people and would like to be with a family. He’s okay with kids, fine with other dogs and great with cats. 6/24/2002

Mabel: is a very pretty, longhaired female, approximately 2 years old. She has been spayed, is current on her vaccinations, and is heartworm-free. Mabel has a heart of gold! She gets along well with other dogs, kids and adults; unknown with cats. Mabel is a very happy girl, and needs to go to a home where someone will have the time and patience to work with her. Although Mabel absolutely loves children, she’s a lot of dog, so it will probably be best for her to be adopted by a family with children aged nine and up. Mabel will be a loving addition to some fortunate family! 6/23/2002

Poppy: is a very handsome longhaired male, just over 7 months old. Born October 19, 2001, Poppy is an absolute love, and wants very much to please! He loves to go in his crate, and he hasn’t had a single “accident” in the house. He tries to act brave – running up to my grown dogs in their kennels and barking like a Big Dog – but then he turns tail and runs to me for protection. Poppy is a very “soft” dog – he’s very sensitive and shy, and needs to go to a home where he’ll know he’s a loved and treasured member of the family. He has been neutered, has had all of his shots, and is on heartworm preventative. 6/19/2002

King is now neutered, utd on his shots and is about 115 lbs., but he’s very underweight. He was not cared for properly by his owner, and as a result, he’s being treated for a bad flea allergy which caused him to lose much of his hair around his tail and hindquarters. But his neglect has not affected his sweet temperament. He’s a face licker and a cuddler. We’re currently accepting applications for him but he won’t be available for adoption until early May. He is going to be an absolutely gorgeous guy with some time and attention. 6/18/2002

Annie: is a lively 10 month old “Wanna Be Saint”. She has a delightful personality in a compact 30-35 pound size body. Her life has been that of a neglected backyard dog who is now learning the ways of being a family pet! She is curious and willing to learn! She is crate trained and has always been around small children. She seems to do well with other dogs, but is still learning body language and all of the skills necessary to play! We are guessing that she may have some Aussie and/or Corgi in her as her herding instincts are quite high! Her willingness to learn and please will make her a great obedience/agility prospect as well as a wonderful addition to her new family! 6/18/2002

Stephanie: is a 10 month old rough coat spayed female puppy. She is all puppy and very sweet. Her owners no longer had time for her. 6/17/2002

You would never know what a rough start she had in life – she is all about giving kisses!! Twinkie is very smart and outgoing. Her adult teeth are coming in, so she’s seriously into chew toys! She loves to stand on the grooming table and have her coat blown with the dryer. I’m working to teach her not to jump up on people – she just wants to get close to your face so she can cover you with kisses. She has been spayed, has had her first set of shots and her rabies vaccination, and is on heartworm preventative. 6/17/2002

She likes drinking from a garden hose and rolling in snowbanks. Brandy likes nothing better than to lie around and get her tummy scratched (which is probably why she’s 15 pounds overweight). Her new family will enjoy taking walks with her and will have a fenced yard. 5/29/2002

Sampson is great with children, cats & other dogs. He is a very friendly , loving guy & can still be very much a puppy! Sampson will also enjoy a good nap in your bed . Sampson has also saved a dog’s life by being used as a blood donor, so Sampson truly is a “Rescue” dog!! He will make a wonderful addition to someone’s family. 6/8/2002

POOH BEAR: is a 2 year old rough-coat female, & weighs in at 110 lbs. She is spayed, UTD on all shots, and is on Flea & Heartworm preventative. Pooh Bear is also housebroken & crate trained. She likes to please her owner, but she is not a very demanding gal. Pooh Bear enjoys a good cat chase, so we do not recommend her to a home with felines, just as a precaution. Pooh Bear also enjoys the outdoors! She walks well on a lead, but does need some work with basic obedience commands. We would recommend a basic obedience class for her. Pooh Bear is good with children & other dogs. She would make a great family pet! 6/8/2002

CHLOE: is a 7 month old rough-coat female. She weighs in at 84 lbs. & is still growing! Chloe is spayed, utd on all shots, is on flea & heartworm preventative, and is microchipped. She is also housebroken & crate trained. Chloe is a VERY spunky gal, who is a little timid when she meets someone for the first time, but that doesn’t last long! Then she is just all over you for attention! Chloe gets along fine with cats, dogs & children. You would need to watch her around smaller children, just because she is VERY puppyish, & may accidentally knock over a small child. Chloe just LOVES to play with toys, & plays real well with other dogs. We recommend that Chloe go to a puppy obedience class, so she can learn how to direct her energy! She does know the command “SIT”, & understands the word “NO”. She is also learning how to walk on a leash, & is learning well. So if you are interested in a bouncing bundle of joy, Chloe is the dog for your family!! 6/8/2002

Mac: he is very sweet and friendly with kids adults and dogs. He loves to be brushed and talked to. He is very dirty and has a lot of burrs. We brushed him for about 1 hour trying to fix him up. He needs a lot more work that I will try and do. He is a big love. I am not sure how he is around cats? This poor dog has been through a lot. He just loves us cause we give him so much attention. Jake: is a younger rough-coated male who is currently being fostered near State College, PA. He was originally found stray in the woods by a family who took him in. He has been moved from this home to foster care. Jake has been neutered and his shots are up to date. He will be tested shortly for heartworm disease and intestinal worms. He is estimated to be somewhere around two years old. He seemed a little unsure of things when his foster mom first picked him up, but he has settled into her home very nicely. He is constantly around other dogs and cats, and they all get along very well. His foster family even has llamas and horses, and Jake is cool with that too!. He loves to be with people in the house, but is always ready to go out and play. He is housebroken and has good inside manners. His foster dad gets a friendly greeting at the door from Jake when he comes in. Jake weighs 125 pounds and seems to be a happy, healthy, playful dog who does know when it’s time to settle down. 5/31/2002

I am good with kids and other dogs. I will try to be the dominant female if I can be. I am house trained, crate trained and know most obedience although a refresher course would be nice. I am not destructive and think I am a lap dog. I was turned into rescue because my owners thought I was too much dog. I really enjoy pets and belly rubs. 5/30/2002

Hercules: is a 3 year old male rough coat. Hercules came to us from a local animal shelter. He was very underweight and in bad shape when he came to us. We know with the proper care and love he needs Hercules will blossom into the dog we know he can be. If you have room in your family for this wonderful dog please call today. 5/28/2002

Bubba: is a 4 year old smooth coat. Bubba is a big sweet, boy. His owner turned him in with 2 other dogs…. on the way to the boarding kennel he layed his head in my lap looking up once in awhile to give sweet kisses…we don’t know much about Bubba yet as we are still learning. He doesn’t seem to mind other dogs and from what we’ve seen is just a giant 4 yr old Teddy Bear. If you think you might be Bubba’s forever home, please contact us. To see pictures of Bubba, please go to 5/28/2002

Maggie: is a Louisiana Saint. Maggie is a 3-5 year old, 114lbs female Saint Bernard. She is short haired now as we have had her clipped. I believe by her photo’s she will be a long hair saint soon. She is beautifully marked. Maggie’s story; Maggie was left behind when her owners moved. A neighbor was supposed to be taking care of her and the other dog, but failed to do so. The other dog a dashound and Maggie were starved and waterless. The small dog is in critical condition and may not live. They owner should be put down not the pets. (my opinion only ) Maggie is great with kids and other dogs, but we are not sure about cats. She is housebroken and walks great on or off lead. She shows no aggression towards strangers and is pretty easy going about her environment. She has separation anxiety ( go figure!), but has made great progress in overcoming it. She will bark if left outside and she sees you leave, but is fine if she is inside and you go. She is a VERY loving and gentle dog and will make a great family pet. Maggie was heart worm positive and staved , She is starting heart worm treatment , She will be given her shots, worming and after a few weeks, and she is up to it she will have surgery for spaying. So we est. she will be able to leave her foster home by the end of May 2002. due to the extreme cost of heartworm treatment ,shots, and spaying. Do to Maggie’s on going heart worm treatment she will not be cleared for placement until the first of July. We wish to make sure she is in top shape for her new forever home. 5/22/2002

Alicia: Date of Birth; 5/20/94 Description; Rough Coat Saint HHGDR Suggests; Obedience Class Good With; Dogs, Adults, Children, Cats Alicia’s story; I was used as a breeding dog until I could no longer breed, then I was given away where I was doomed to spend my remaining years on a chain. Luckily a wonderful woman found out and was able to get me and send me to HHGDSBR. 5/17/2002

Baby: Baby is a 3 year old male saint who weighs about 150 lbs. His heartbroken owner has to give him up, as circumstances have required her to move to public housing and she cannot have a pet over 30 lbs. Baby is housebroken and good with cats and kids. OK with other dogs. He pulls some on a leash, but is manageable. Rides well in the car. Currently located in South Philadelphia. 5/17/2002

Fred: Fred is a good looking guy. He’s a 3-4 year old neutered male. He’s good on a leash and housebroken. He’s very good with adults but is not good with children. Currently located in Reading, PA. 5/17/2002

Bernie: Saints aren’t for everyone, as Bernie’s owners found out. They’ve had him for 4 months and have decided they cannot care for him properly. Bernie is a 2 1/2 year old neutered male, weighing about 130 lbs. He’s housebroken, good with kids and other dogs. He’s a cat chaser, so no cats, please. Bernie likes being groomed (and vacuumed!) and enjoys car rides. Another plus–he’s not a huge drooler. Could you be the loving home Bernie is searching for? Currently located in Tunkhannock, PA. 5/17/2002

Yokie: is a 5 yr. old spayed roughcoated female (~110#). She is up-to-date on her shots, including bordetella, and is microchipped with a PetNet chip. Yokie was seized following a cruelty investigation. She loves people, fetching a ball, and having a soft bed to sleep on. She is crate trained and housebroken. She knows some commands (sit, down, wait, come, and give). Yokie’s dog skills are improving as she is in a foster home with three other Saint Bernards. She loves to follow the cats around the house and will require additional work with cats. We feel that she would do best with a confident, adult male dog as her companion. Like all of our rescued Saint Bernard’s, Yokie needs a home that will commit to her ongoing socialization and obedience training, as well as provide her with a securely-fenced exercise area. Preference will be given to homes in New England or Ontario. 5/16/2002

Ruby: female, Younger approx 18 months. She is very friendly. She is house trained and living indoors at her foster home now. She might like to test the family Cat. So not sure here. She is not dog aggressive. Loves dogs and Children. She is a fence climber. Whoever adopts her needs to have an unclimbable fence. Perhaps a farm for wide open range or an electric pet wire ran around your yard fence, before s he is brought home. Pet chargers are can be orders for around $45. and the wire and fence hooks are about $20. After a few touches the saint will never try the fence again and the electric can be turn off. She will never know the difference. Has a medium smooth coat, long tail, she was found with a green nylon color, she is underweight , We believe she has been on the streets for a while. She was only 30 minutes from being put down when we reached the shelter to place an hold on her. This week end April 4th. She is now in the Little Rock Area. Ruby has been vetted today and is VERY heartworm / She will be held in a foster home until she has recovered well enough to be spay. Her weight is off at least by 50 LBS April 4th. only weights 87 lbs. She loves people, children and other dogs. Loves to lick you in the face. Has a large bone structure, so with weight she will be about 130 lbs. Smooth coat / long tail/ hips appear to be no problem. If you have a farm or could run a pet charger with a wire around your yard for a few days until Ruby learns the electric will be on . I feel then the electric could be turned off and she would never try to get out. As long as she was fed all she wanted. 5/15/2002

Snow White knows “SIT”, & will walk on a lead , but will suddenly flop over when she needs reassurance. She is a very submissive dog & will need some basic obedience. Snow White is housebroken, & does not need to be crated. She is a diamond in the rough, & will need someone with some patience because of her submissiveness. Lacy: In August, 2000, I was found roaming in Geauga County and was subsequently picked up by the dog warden. I was wearing a tight choke chain that had worn the fur off my neck and left the skin red and raw. The pads of my feet were also raw so I’d been on the run for a while. The dog warden kept me for a week hoping that my owner would make an attempt to claim me. When no one claimed me Saint Bernard Rescue was called. I am very gentle with other dogs, kids, men and women. I am on the quiet side and am most content being around people though I’m not very affectionate. My foster family thinks I came from a home where I was an indoor dog because I am so well mannered. But get me outdoors and I LOVE to run! I am about three years old, have a smooth coat, and am up-to-date on shots. I am also heartworm negative, spayed and weigh 85 pounds. Chester: is a Dalmatian mix puppy. He was born on Valentine’s Day, which explains why he’s such a love! He is absolutely adorable and is a great snuggler – as you can tell from his picture. He was born in the house and has been kept in a playpen and raised with lots of socialization. Chester will be smaller than a Saint since his mom was a Dalmatian. Sebastian gets along well with other dogs, but prefers the company of a female, & would be good with children. He has had no exposure to cats, but should do well with them also. Sebastian is a very laid back guy. 4/18/2002

Klondike: 4-5 year old shorthair male has really come into his own as he has settled into his new surroundings. He is an energetic and overall happy dog. He loves to play and give you his paw! He seems to enjoy the company of other dogs. Because of his past (almost freezing to death at a younger age) his eyesight is compromised. He can see but not as well as others. It is suspected that there may be some underlining neurological damage from this, however, he does not outwardly show any signs. He has overcome some huge obstacles in his past and is just looking to be someone’s “special buddy”. It is hoped that we can find him that home which he will be able to live out his life outside of a kennel in which he has always known. With the love and a stable home life, Klondike will blossom even farther. 4/11/2002

Teddy has some separation anxiety , & needs a companion while no one is home. He came from a family with a bunch of kids & 7 other dogs, so he is used to having someone around. Contact Meghan, 815-758-5261. DeKalb, IL foster home Simba is an indoor St. Bernard. When I first brought him home he would only go out if I went with him. The people from whom I rescued him, kept him out in their garage He was not properly cared for, nor properly fed. Basically he was very neglected and they were going to have him put down. He is definitely an indoor Saint, now he does not like to leave my side. He is very loyal. He goes with us to softball games and interacts very well with other dogs he does not know. He listens very well. I don’t know to what extent his training was but he sits, speaks, lies down and stays. He is very well behaved. During his vet check, he weighs 142 lbs. he is under weight. The vet said he would like to see him gain another 20 -30 lbs. but not more than that he loves taking baths and being brushed. I try to give him a bath every other daytime permitting. his coat is really starting to look lovely. His birthday is in October this year he will be 6 years old. Whoever becomes his new owner will truly be blessed with a wonderful new friend. 4/4//2002

Bailey: Hi! My name is Bailey. I am the new kid on the block here at St. Bernard Rescue! I came to my foster parents in January, 2002. My owners didn’t want me anymore because I was cramping their style. I was notorious for playfully charging after people and jumping on them. I didn’t have any obedience training so I didn’t know any better. I was born in October, 2000. I am a smooth coat female and weigh 85 pounds. I was recently spayed so I am going through the healing process. I am up-to-date on shots and am heartworm negative. My foster parents have spent considerable time with me working to settle me down and even take me to their place of business to that I can be socialized more. I love it! My foster parents are even teaching me different commands. My adoptive family must be willing to make me feel like a member as I do not like being alone. THey also must have kids and/or another dog. I would really like a family that has a stay-at-home mom. You wouldn’t believe how much I’ve settled down in the short few weeks I have been here. Come and see me … and the other girls! I’d love to meet you! 3/1/2002

GOLIATH: This handsome 18 month old longhaired boy was picked up as a stray. He is neutered, housetrained and has had some obedience training. Goliath enjoys being with people, and he likes children. Brandi: She is a leonberger There is a good girl who fits this description at the shelter in Fort Worth, TX, where I volunteer. Her name is Brandi, and her picture is below. But she is BIG, maybe 28″ at the shoulder. She’s beautiful and is sweet outside her cage. She has been at the shelter at least a month, and is getting impatient. Adoptions are slow this time of year and it takes someone pretty special to adopt a girl this big. She does give me kisses when I visit her. Update 2/14/2002 We had someone come meet Brandi from the Leo folks, and also got lucky and talked to the person who brought her to the shelter when she was just a little puppy. She’s NOT a Leo after all, but she’s doing a darned good imitation. Her momma was a mixed breed and daddy was a Saint. So she IS part Saint, at least. We can bill her as a Saint/Shepherd. I can also report she is a WONDERFUL dog. She responds immediately to “sit” and “down (lay)”, is exuberant and fun and gives kisses. Not a mean bone in her body, but I know she can be protective because I did see her tell that one bad guy to get out of her face. She is a GREAT dog. Beautiful…the people who looked at her said she angulates better than a Leo, ha-ha, you show people must know what that means! So if you need more info, that should help. She’s not as big as I remembered; maybe just about 22-24″ at the shoulder, perhaps 80 lbs. In good shape, her teeth look good. Thanks again, we’re all trying to help her. 2/24/2002

DONOVAN: is a 1 1/2 year old longhaired male. Picked up as a stray, his incredible outgoing personality has made many a heart reach out to him. He is very alert and has that puppy energy. We are not sure how he will do in a home with children or other pets but, training acceptable behaviors with him will be a snap as he just wants to be part of your family. 2/24/2002

Lulu: is a very sweet rough female puppy who was born on April 24, 2001. She has recently come into Rescue because the family that she was living with felt that a Saint puppy was too much to handle along with their three young children. Lulu is currently in foster care in Western Pennsylvania. She is staying with an adult female Saint, and they are getting along very well. Lulu also gets along very well with children. Lulu will not be ready for adoption till mid-to-late January. In the meantime, she will be crate-trained, spayed, updated on her shots, and tested for heartworm. She has already tested negative for intestinal parasites. Lulu’s foster mom plans to be sure that Lulu is housebroken and has good house manners. Lulu’s adoptive home will be very carefully chosen. Only very loving, dedicated Saint lovers who have a fenced yard should apply. 2/23/2002

Maggie: a real southern belle, Her story came as a shock. She was chain to a tree as an alarm for a drug house since she was a pup. She has an exceptional head piece , She has been starved and needs lots of food to grow to her full potential she is now 96 lbs ,and about 18 months old. She was spayed this week, heart worm checked neg. shots given and wormed. She seems very healthy, and is very very sweet. She seems to love every one and their dog. We would like to find her a forever home that will not mind feeding her. The rescue lady that first met her took a coffee can full of food and said she had never seen a dog woof down her food so fast as Sugar did. She had been abandon for a long period of time before rescue was called . She is now in Shreveport La . soon to be moved to a foster home. 2/21/2002

Phoebe: is a 6 month old spayed female rough coat. She was given up by her owners due to a divorce and moving. She is a very happy boisterous, typical Saint pup with energy to burn. I would prefer she go to an experienced Saint Bernard home. 2/18/2002

Beethoven: is a three year old male. He is good with family members and cats. He is a protective dog of family and property. He is approximately 140 lbs., with good personality and disposition. Up to date on all shots and neutered, ready to be placed. 2/17/2002

Lorenzo: Lorenzo is a one year old male who will be neutered prior to placement. His owners took him to a shelter when they moved. Scared of all the commotion and strangers, he stopped eating and retreated inside himself. But once outdoors and with big dog people, he sprang to life! What a sweet, loving personality. Lorenzo is housebroken, knows “sit,” is good on a leash, good with other dogs (his foster home has two saints) and cats (he licks them!) and good with children (he licks them, too). He’s skinny, but we’re working on that. ๐Ÿ˜‰ He is heartworm negative and utd on his shots. He’ll make a great companion for a family with the time to love him and provide him with additional training. 2/17/2002

Isabelle is spayed, UTD on all her shots, and is on flea & heartworm preventative. She is also housebroken & crate trained. Isabelle, Izzy for short, is a super girl & will bring joy to whom ever adopts hers!! 2/16/2002

Bart: is a beautifully marked 2 1/2 year old , rough-coat male. He weighs in at 120 lbs., but needs to gain another 10 lbs. When Bart came into rescue he was terribly neglected & was left on a chain all day long. He is now neutered, UTD on all his shots, and started on flea & heartworm preventative. Bart cleaned up really nice, & is now housebroken & crate trained too. He has good house manners, & gets along great with other dogs, cats & children. It’s best that he does not go to a home with LIVESTOCK……they really stress him out! Bart needs some work with walking on a leash, but does know the commands “SIT” & “DOWN”. He loves lots of attention, since he didn’t get any in his previous home. Bart also enjoys being brushed & likes to play with his toys!! Bart does not drool as much, as most Saints do. He is looking for his own home to settle into. Bart would make a nice addition to someone’s family. 2/15/2002

Daisy: Daisy will be two years old on March 4th 2002. She is an escape artist. That is why she is on a chain in the pictures attached. She is usually easy to find when she gets out. The fact is that 99.9% of the time when she runs off you will find her at or in the nearest water source in your area. Daisy is a wonderful dog with a great personality. She loves children and other animals and doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. She really thrives around youngsters. I have never seen her more at home or more at peace than at my sisters where she was allowed in the house and had free rompings with the kids and their dog Harley. ( A Golden Retriever ) Daisy is used to a dog house but she really prefers to be inside. She has never had an accident in the house, She has been to obedience school and she knows the meaning of sit, stay, lay down, give me paw, speak, catch, come here and then some. Make no mistake, Daisy is supremely intelligent. She has been spayed and she is up to date on all her shots and she is in great health. Also she is small for a Saint Bernard. She weighs just over 100 pounds and she is short haired. One of the things I like about her the best is that unlike other St. Bernards Daisy does not slobber much at all. She needs a good home with children. One that will make her part of the house hold instead of the dog outside. She is on Heart Guard for heartworm prevention and we use Top Spot on her for fleas. She eats Purina dry and Pedigree canned and that is all she has ever had. She is great in the car and has traveled across the country with me in my truck .I simply hate seeing her on a chain in the yard while my other dog runs free. I think in the proper home she could thrive and become a much loved member of the family. I just feel that it isn’t fair for her to be chained up here and left alone when my wife and I are at work. 2/13/2002

Trudy: is a very pretty younger rough-coated female Saint. She was found stray in Western PA. She was turned in to the shelter where she is currently residing. When she first came, she exhibited some aggression to some of the other shelter dogs. She also would not walk on a leash. After some time has passed, she has become a very friendly dog with the other furry residents at the shelter. The humane officer feels that Trudy was overwhelmed and afraid at first. She enjoys playtime out in the yard with a group of about 8 other dogs. She plays happily with them, and there are no longer any problems at all. Trudy has been great all along with the shelter workers and visitors. She is very friendly, playful, and reacts very warmly when given attention from people. She has had many visitors come to see her, and she willingly goes to the visiting room and enjoys herself meeting the people. She usually doesn’t want to go back to her cage. Trudy is somewhere between one and two years old. She is not yet spayed, but will be before she is adopted. She seems healthy, and the shelter did give her shots to her. The shelter would really like to see Trudy get to a good home. They have asked Saint Bernard Rescue to help them out in finding just the right one. 2/12/2002

He has a limp on his front left leg that will most likely never go away. He is very happy and healthy though. He does not know he is or was hurt. A happy go lucky boy! 1/25/2002

Lady: is 6 years old smooth coat female who has been raised with children. She loved the children so much that every evening before she would go to sleep she would check on each one of them and only then would she retire to her room. Lady knows that before she can have a treat she must say please, which in saint language is a bark. She is very loving and enjoys all the attention she can get. I hope that she will once again be able to have a home with children. 1/23/2002

Buttons is housetrained and does well with kids, cats, and other dogs. He is quite playful, gentle, and affectionate. He’s still very much a puppy. Buttons tells us his ideal home would include children, and maybe even a canine housemate to romp with. 1/16/2002

Arminius: St.B/Mastiff Mix but as sweet as a lamb. He is not yet a year old, and has been through a lot! He and his Beagle friend would go for handouts to the local stores. They lived in a junk yard. Twisted metal and broken down cars. Old trailers that had no windows. They got along with all of the dogs that ran in the trailer park near by. Around this area there are steel traps. We still do not know who is setting them. The little Beagle stepped in one of these traps. Arminius stayed with his friend until someone heard his cries. He lost his little friend, the beagle had to be put down due to the wounds and loss of blood. Yet another trauma for poor Arminius. He was picked by us and taken to a forever home. We could not leave him after hearing all that he had been through. The sad part is that the new people that adopted him do not want him any longer. Their dog one of MANY rescues did not like him and would attack him. Arminius sat there and let the dog attack. He got along with the cats. And I know that he loves children he cuddled with my 8 year old daughter all the way to Springfield! He is now in need of help once more. Please anyone that can help contact me. I am afraid that he will end up in a kill shelter. This should not have ever happened! He is a treasure and deserves better. 1/7/2002

Sara: has been rescued out of the Edmond Oklahoma shelter She is a wonderful dog. She is great with other dogs, but doesn’t like to share her food. I can take toys and food right out of her mouth if I want to though, so I wouldn’t exactly call it food aggression. She loves other dogs (male and female). She is great with kids, of course too big for very small children though. We have taught her not to jump, which was her only behavioral problem. I believe her to be housebroken. She is very loving and well mannered inside as well. I think she might be cat aggressive. She hasn’t injured one, but she does seem to be much to interested in them. She is 90 pounds and could use her food on a regular basis . She is little on the thin side but seems otherwise healthy. I think she is about a year old. I don’t think she is spayed. We will of course have this done if not. She is very quiet, doesn’t dig and doesn’t try to escape. She tends to pull on leash but does well with a prong collar. She enjoys car rides as well. Sara has to live in the barn now as this is the only place our foster home has open for her. We would really like to get this sweet heart an home for Christmas. 1/7/2002

Lady:. She seemed really nice and pretty laid back. Her hair is longer. I’m no expert, but I’d say Lady is a rough coat . Lady is a little smaller than Sadie, Her placed traveling companion. Helen said Sadie weighs 130lbs, So we are guessing Lady at 120 lbs at this time. Both need a good sound diet, Lady is beautiful and looks really healthy. She has been spayed ,received her shots, wormed, and heart wormed checked Neg. Or last adoption home who visited wanted to take both of the saints but stated “I would have loved to take both of them, but there was no way I could handle 3 big dogs in my small house.” So Sadie was placed this week in her new home, and Lady is still looking for that special loving home. We would love to place her for the Holidays. Please Click on the photo’s to see an enlargement of Lady. 1/7/2002

Brittany: 4 1/2 year old female longhaired St. Bernard. She is very nice, gets along with other dogs and loves people. She needs to put on 15 – 20 lbs. Wilbur: who is 18-mo old male who was given up by his family when they found out they were going to have a baby and didn’t have time for him. If they only knew how WONDERFUL he is with kids!!!! He also gets along with dogs and cats. 1/6/2002

Claude: who is about 1 yr old neutered male who had no one to teach him what a puppy should know to be a part of a family, but he is eager to learn. He LOVES to play with other dogs. He goes up stairs backwards. 1/6/2002

MURPHY: is a 6 year old, rough-coat male. He weighs in at 85 lbs. Murphy is a smaller bred Saint, & is well proportioned for his size. But none the less, he’s all Saint! Even though Murphy is 6, he has many years ahead of him, since he is a smaller dog. Murphy was abandoned twice & was severely neglected, when he came into rescue. You could tell he had lived a hard life. But even with everything he’s been through, he has an incredible temperament, & absolutely loves people!! Murphy is now neutered, UTD on all shots, and is on flea & heartworm preventative. He just loves children & is also great with other dogs. Murphy is housebroken & is a real gentleman indoors. He walks well on a leash , & knows some basic commands like “SIT”, “LAY DOWN”, & “BELLY RUBS”. He is a very docile & submissive dog, and will try to lay in your lap any chance he gets. He is just a big teddy bear! Murphy loves to be brushed & also rides well in a car. He loves to romp & play, and will snort like a pig when he’s happy & excited! Murphy would make a wonderful addition to someone’s family. 1/5/2002

Bernadette: (aka Bernie) is a LH, 1 1/2 year old female looking to be a loving family member. Picked up as a stray, she was found running with another female dog and is very loving to people. She has a very sweet personality and will adjust well into a loving home environment. 1/5/2002

Morgan: is a big friendly St. Bernard furgirl that needs a spot to hang her hat for the long haul. She came to us from Animal Control where she was picked up as a stray. She is heartworm positive but is currently being treated so that she will have a second chance at a wonderful life. She will be available approximately October 15th but we are currently screening applications so that perhaps by the time she is finished with her treatment, she will have a home to call her own. She seems to be ok with other dogs, unknown with cats or children but we haven’t seen any aggressive behavior out of her to date. 1/5/2002

Juliette: a very nice 5 year old, long haired, spayed female weighing around 160#. She is up to date on shots. She is a good, well behaved girl whose family needs to relocate. 1/2/2001
